Two precious gifts on my 63rd.

1: A gift of love

From my great niece Tyra M. G. -- a weaving - hot pad/coaster/wall hanging, by her own hands. It will hold a special place in the museum of great gifts I have received over the many years.

2:  A gift of hate

From someone I have known for over 30 years....I believe old age has taken some toll. I hope that's all it is.----the gift, , , what it actually feels like (in a very small way) to be subjected to racism because of the color of my skin/race.
I was amazed at how much it hurt, but also how short the hurt lasted. I think you always have to consider the source and their frame of reference, their upbringing, their environment, the ignorance and lack of first hand experience with people of different races/colors/cultures.
This gift has made me take a look at my own prejudices.
The words I use.
Descriptions I use.
Jokes I tell or laugh at.
Things I have done in the past, and that I won't do in the future.......

Maybe it isn't too late to teach this "old dog" new tricks.

I will strive to be a better man, in the little time I have left, amongst this so diverse human race.
